Village pub won't be turned into flats

Wed, 26 Oct 2011

Campaigners are celebrating victory after planning permission to turn a village pub into a block of flats was refused.

The owner of the Bridge Inn on the Main Road in Laxey wanted to turn the pub into five apartments.

Permission was denied and an appeal was lodged earlier this year, but this has now been withdrawn.

The planning authority ruled that the loss of the facility wouldn't be good for Laxey or for the wider community.

Members of the Campaign for Real Ale objected to the plans and made submissions to the planning authority.

Angela Aspin from CAMRA is delighted the pub will stay.[play media file below]
