Chlamydia cases on Island fall

Tue, 28 Jun 2011

Chlamydia cases on the Island have been falling over the last four years.

The number of people diagnosed with the sexually transmitted infection have fallen by nearly 40% from 218 in 2007 to 137 in the last year.

In the same period, referrals to the Genito-urinary Medicine clinic remained at a similar level.

Health Minister David Anderson revealed the figures in the House of Keys, in response to a question from Onchan MHK Peter Karran.

Mr Karran also asked about a plan for chlamydia screening on the Island.

Mr Anderson says his Department is looking into it, if the funds are available [play clip]
