Plans go in to turn derelict pool into boat haven

Tue, 31 May 2011

Plans have now been submitted to turn the derelict outdoor swimming pool in Port Erin into a small boat haven and watersports centre.

The Traigh Meanagh site at the base of the cliff to the north of the main beach has been abandoned since the early 90s.

There've been complaints that it's a bit of an eye-sore.

The proposals include an 18 bedroom hotel, shop and restaurant.

Primary access would be from the sea and a water taxi would operate from the Raglan Pier.

Hugh Logan Architects who've drawn up the plans say the buildings have been designed to have minimal environmental impact.

They say they've consulted government conservation officers on how best to avoid disturbance to protected species like basking sharks, lizards and certain birds - both during construction and operation of the facility.
