MHK questions cost of Bay Fest cancellation

Sat, 21 May 2011

An MHK will be raising questions over the cancellation of the Isle of Man Bay Festival next week.

Peel member Tim Crookall will ask Chief Minister Tony Brown how much money the Government stands to lose through sponsorship or advertising.

The festival's promoters named the Manx Government as one of the reasons the event failed.

Mr Crookall will also ask Office of Fair Trading Chairman Bill Henderson what rights ticketholders have to a refund.

Earlier this week, Mr Henderson told Energy FM that the OFT had been unable to contact festival organiser Jonathon Irving, and made an appeal for him to get in touch.

Whilst ticket agent HMV says in its terms and conditions that it will provide a refund, it now says the funds have already been passed to the Bay Festival promoters, so it can't refund sales.

Organisers of the festival are asking those who have bought tickets to request a refund by writing to Isle of Man Bay Festival Limited, PO Box 1234, Peel no later than June 17th.

The House of Keys sits on Tuesday.
