Falling passenger numbers disappoint airport chiefs

Wed, 09 Mar 2011

Airport bosses say they're disappointed after a 3.6% fall in passenger numbers was recorded in February.

Over 1800 fewer passengers passed through Ronaldsway in February, compared with the same month last year.

Airport Director Ann Reynolds said she had expected to see an increase.

The loss is being attributed to airlines operating fewer flights and smaller planes over what is traditionally the quietest time of the year.

Aer Arann's London City route faired badly, losing over 1400 passengers, equating to over 28% of last February's total.

The Manchester route operated by Flybe also saw big losses, with travellers dropping by over 1600.

However, bookings are said to be strong for the coming months, with Ronaldsway chiefs expecting a successful summer.
