Check smoke alarms, after two Island house fires

Mon, 20 Sep 2010

The Isle of Man Fire and Rescue Service are being called to more and more house fires around the Island, because not enough people are fitting and regularly testing smoke alarms.

The statement comes after two house fires, in Braddan and Sulby over the weekend.

The causes of the fires were found to be a cooker that had accidently been left on, and logs being left too close to a woodburner.

Station Officer Carl Kinvig has been speaking to Energy Fm, and he said that smoke alarm's should be tested once a week by pushing the button with a broom handle, and it's also a good idea to vacume away the dust from the detector monthly.
