Tesco extension plans refused

Wed, 07 Jul 2010

Tesco has been refused planning permission to expand its Douglas store.

The application has been refused because of traffic issues.

A public inquiry was held into the matter.

The supermarket chain had wanted to create a mezzanine level inside the current store, and increase the number of parking spaces.

The company estimated the expansion would have created 250 new jobs.

The Council of Ministers has agreed with the recommendation of the independent planning inspector.

The full report from the inspector, David Bushby, can be found on the Government's website.
