Wed, 04 Apr 2018

The Isle of Man were greeted with large cheers from the crowd including Chief Minister Howard Quayle at the Opening Ceremony of the XXI Commonwealth Games in Australia's Gold Coast.

23-year-old Jake Kelly from Douglas was the chosen flagbearer for the Isle of Man.

Kelly told Energy FM: "It's an honour to have the flag. I'll be waving it with pride."

"I'm just looking forward to seeing the show that Australia is going to put on for everyone."

On his grandfather (who competed in the road race event at the Cardiff 1958 Games) being in his thoughts: "It's nice to be waving it (the flag) even after he's not here any more. It's nice to be waving it because I know he did it as well."
